Pakistan's achievement in the health and economic sectors during past years has been impressive yet little attention has been directed towards the health of adolescents, particularly in the area of Sexual & Reproductive health (RH). Still no significant work has been initiated, and thus there is still no organized program to provide RH information & services to this group. Since Pakistan is a Muslim country where, to discuss the topic of sexual and reproductive health is a societal taboos, less work has been done regarding adolescent’s reproductive health. Whatever knowledge base is available indicates that programs and policies need to protect adolescents from the specific biases they face that undermine their health, safety, and secure development. It is a major concern that the policies and programs, as well as legal provisions, do not protect adolescents; policies and thus programs need to be especially designed to meet the needs of adolescents without disrupting their development into adults.

As a child centered organization the reproductive, sexual and psychosexual rights of adolescents and youth are a priority for Plan Pakistan. Therefore, Plan Pakistan has recognized the urgent need to recently initiate a project “Reproductive Health Initiative for Adolescence (RHIA)”. Contech International has joined hands with PLAN Pakistan to work on RHIA. RHIA intends to address the issues of Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and aims at enabling adolescents and young adults to make informed sexual and reproductive health choices, in an empowering and supportive environment.

Our goal is to facilitate development and formulation of evidence based National Policy on Adolescence Sexual Reproductive Health. This particular project would open up issues and problems faced by the adolescents in Pakistan and focuses on highlighting the importance of effective National Policy on Adolescents.

We would like to take your views on one of the aspect of RHIA i.e. “Reproductive health education”. Should we have reproductive health education in our schools? If yes then from which age and which class should it be started? Your views and comments regarding “Reproductive health education” or “RHIA” will be highly appreciated.
